Anuncio.

Who we are: In Artificial Intelligence Lab (LIA Lab) (www.lia.upm.es) there are researchers and professors working in Synthetic, Systems Biology and Lab Automation with different backgrounds: computer scientists, physicists, mathematicians, and biotechnologists.

LIA is a partner research group in the EU – FP7 Project title EVOPROG: “General-Purpose Programmable Evolution Machine on a Chip” www.evoprog.eu  This project is focused on implement directed evolution of biomolecules in microfluidic devices. UPM is in charge of software programming-and modelling tasks.

The UPM team in FP7 project EVOPROG is involved in trying to solve the following problem:

• Fact: the description of biology protocols is usually ambiguous and incomplete.

• Problem: Many published protocols are executed manually and are not reproducible in other Labs.

• Solution: A programming language for molecular biology able to describe in a precise way all the biological steps of an assay.

• Advantages (Standardization and Automation): A biology protocol described using a programming language is easily analysed for correctness and debugging and its execution can be automatized in a robotic or microfluidic platform. This will allow that the user (a biologist) can focus just in the design and specification of the biological protocol and avoid the knowledge of microfluidic hardware and skip all the details about how to run a biological protocol in a microfluidic chip.
